The amazing truths of our past salvation and future glorification can lead us forget how extraordinary our ordinary Christian life is. Love for Christ is at the heart of our faith, and where love is, there is Joy. We experience the love of Christ in our salvation and anticipate its fullness in the life to come, but love and joy, as the heartbeat of our relationship to Christ are also presently experienced by all believers.
We are reminded of God’s steadfast love which tastes sweeter than life in our call for worship in Psalm 63, and in response to His lovingkindness we rejoice with our first Hymn “Rejoice the Lord is King”. We then approach the God who loved us first in prayer, remembering His design for us on this side of heaven to walk by faith and not by sight, with our first scripture reading and John’s account of doubting Thomas in John 20:19-31.
We then sing of our Love to God in “My God I Love Thee” and are reminded that our love for Him is required, by John’s account of Peter’s restoration in John 21:1:17. Prayerfully we worship God by giving, and ready our hearts to receive His Word with “Fairest Lord Jesus”. We study 1 Peter 1:8-9, by looking at three fundamental present realities of our Christian life. We then sing “May the Grace of Christ Our Saviour” and we close with the benediction of 1 Corinthians 16:22-23.
