Order of Service 09/12

In December, each Sunday marks an approach to the day we remember Christ’s birth. His first coming is His first Advent, hence the term “second Sunday of Advent”. Psalm 98 is a Messianic psalm that looks forward to the Second Advent. Isaac Watts versified this in his hymn “Joy to the World”.

We read from Isaiah 9:1-7 (see the picture from the Dead Sea Scrolls below of these exact verses:

We then sing the Incarnation hymn we are learning: “Of the Father’s Love Begotten”. Taken from a Roman poem of the 4th century, it is a marvellous celebration of the mysteries of the Incarnation.

As we are entering a season again of evaluating men for leadership, we read in Act 6:1-7, while the sermon text is 1 Timothy 3:1-15.

Before the Word, we pray corporately, and sing “Speak O Lord”. We close with the joyful hymn of adoration, “O Come All Ye Faithful”.
